What To Expect From Therapy
First Steps
You would contact me by email or phone. We would have a telephone conversation which would give us the opportunity to discuss the issues that led you to seek professional advice and we would determine whether we could work together. After the initial phone conversation, there is no obligation to work together. First Consultation This first consultation session is an assessment meeting and usually lasts 90 minutes. I would gather all the relevant information of the current situation, family history and anything else that you want to tell me about. We would also discuss goals for therapy and establish a plan for sessions (weekly, once every two weeks, etc). This is an opportunity for us to begin to get to know each other and for you to decide whether I am the right therapist for you. It is important that you feel comfortable and safe |
Ongoing Sessions
We would meet regularly for an hour each time.
An important aspect of therapy is collaborative working. Although we would be considering progress in each meeting, I would recommend we hold review sessions every six sessions or so to discuss in more detail how we are working together.
Deciding to end therapy would also be a collaborative process, depending on your ideas and my clinical judgement.
